Although the new track is based on what M&S have spent their career so far doing, powerful close vocal harmonies, sustained burst of acoustic instrumentals, emotional subject matter, builds to frequent highs – in a phrase, their intense pop-folk – there is something different about this track. The vocal line on the chorus is a bit too… boring, for want of a better word. And the quiet section dominated by the piano… I don’t know. I look forward to the new album, Babel , most definitely, but there seems to be something a little uninspiring about it, quite uncharacteristically so. Almost like a less interesting band is trying to cash in on their style.
